Blossom 11 by Jian Yoo 2025 50 × 48 cm Mother of Pearl on Wood

We found Jian Yoo after researching “Najeochilgi” Traditional Korean Mother-of-pearl inlay art then searching for contemporary artists using “Nacre” Mother of Pearl. We reached out to Sun Gallery via Artsy, after seeing pictures of Jian Yoo’s work on Instagram. We had seen images of her Blossom series on her website and knew we wanted to see more. Sun Gallery very graciously provided information about Jian Yoo’s available work, as it happened a few works in the Blossom series were still available. After narrowing our choices down to two pieces, we were still unable to decide which we prefered. Tariff uncertainty complicated shipping the artwork and concerning customs coding involving artwork made with mother of pearl, kept us from purchasing the work from abroad. So we planned our vacation to Thailand with a stop over in Korea to purchase the artwork in person and carry it home ourselves. It was quite a bit of hassle to carry it on two flights due to it’s unwieldy dimensions but now that it’s at home safely and hanging on the wall we are satisfied it was well worth it.
