2025 has been a difficult year for art purchasing due to US tariffs being imposed on all shipment to the US, in the past we have paid low tariffs on artwork we purchased. The unknown amount of potential tariff assessment is a major risk because you have no any idea what tariffs to expect before the item is shipped. We have been wracked by indecision over our art purchases this year. The American art market is not our first choice, because is it too competitive and is over priced. We decide on an Art buying trip, to buy items to carry home in our luggage, this has limited the size of the work. Our Art buying trip to Europe in September. We attended an art show in Paris, visiting galleries in Brussels, Antwerp, Amsterdam, London, & Paris. It was a struggle to find anything that suited our collection and taste. We saw Shourouk Rhaiem’s work at "The Mystery of Cleopatra,"on display at the Institut du Monde Arabe (Arab World Institute) in Paris. I had no expectation her work would've been available but decided to take our chance, after some research, tracked down her gallery, and contacted the artist on Instagram. I visited 193 Gallery and Fortunately she was within our range and the lovely gallery owner showed us her work availability, discussed her inspiration and artistic process. After receiving the listing of her available work, we selected this great little sculpture out and it just so happened. It was available to take home no concern about shipping at all, a huge relief. 193 gallery was extremely gracious and very helpful throughout the process. The caliber of courtesy and assistance they offered is outstanding. We are currently contemplating the purchase of a second piece of the artist work.
