2025 is difficult year for fine art buying due to US tariffs being imposed on all shipment to the US. We have paid low tariffs on artwork we purchased before now. The unknown amount of potential tariffs is a major risk, a shipper has no idea what tariffs to expect before shipping. It has been an indecisive year for art purchases. The US art market is not our preference, it’s too competitive and overpriced. We took an Art buying trip to Europe, intending carry home purchased work in our luggage. We attend an art show in Paris, visited galleries in Brussels, Antwerp, Amsterdam, London, & Paris. In Paris we were stunned by Shourouk Rhaiem’s work at "The Mystery of Cleopatra,"on display at the Institut du Monde Arabe (Arab World Institute). With no expectation that she had available work, we messaged the artist on Instagram, and after some research we tracked down her gallery. We visited 193 Gallery found that she was within our price range. The kind gallery owner showed us her work availability, discussed her inspiration, and artistic process. From her listing of available work, we selected this great little sculpture to take home, no concern about shipping at all, a huge relief. 193 gallery is extremely gracious and very helpful. The caliber of courtesy and assistance they offered is outstanding. We are currently contemplating the purchase of a second piece of the artist work.
